Events that encourage mindfulness and ingenuityThe Impact Hub Kyoto offers a variety of events and seminars that help participants discover the “Art of Living” and find solutions to bring about positive social change. We offer four programs: 1) HUB Kitchen and opportunities to get to know our community; 2) HUB Reconnect and activities for “self-innovation” and discovering one’s potential; 3) HUB Idea Pitching and entrepreneurial programs to help enterprising individuals realize their ideas; 4)HUB Inspire Me! and platforms for spreading ideas and holding; intellectual discussion.

Founder of Impact Hub Kyoto. Involved in projects to promote and support the Knowledge Community in Kyoto for a long time. Interested in inheriting social resources including local people, climate, tradition and culture in a creative manner, and engaged in a wide range of projects for universities, governmental institutions, companies and the citizen sector to create attractive places (BA) with the use of these resources.

Representative of home's vi (place and connection laboratory), specified non-profit corporation

Graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture of Kyoto University. Experienced the marketing of personnel and salary system development. Applied for the 2004 unprecedented software adoption project, an community revitalization IT project organized by the Information Technology Promotion Agency and then launched an IT company in Kyoto. Interested in NPO and social entrepreneurial activities, and then founded the specified non-profit corporation “home's vi (place and connection laboratory)” in 2008 and serves as the representative. Assumed the director of the Secretariat of the Kyoto City Future Creation 100-member Committee and a part-time lecturer of the Faculty of Humanities at Kyoto Seika University.

Seiko KUMAKURA

Mother of two children, Outdoor voluntary nursery center “Omoji Oyamanoko”

Born in Hokkaido in 1978. Worked for NPO Art Network Japan where she engaged in the planning and production of play and dance at the Tokyo International Art Festival (now known as Festival/Tokyo), and other projects related to education and international cooperation. Assumed the theatrical director of the Kawasaki City Art Center in 2008 and manages the theater. Also operates an art café serving dishes using local products. Moved to Kamakura after childbirth and participated in outdoor voluntary nursery center “Nakayoshi-kai” as she wanted to learn more about childrearing and nature. Experienced nursing care for her family and got more interested in communication and opportunity creation among family members. Gave birth to her second child at home. Launched voluntary nursery center “Omoji Oyamanoko” in Kyoto with mothers who are friends, and runs the center. Completed the Eco Village Design Education and the second term of the Permaculture Design Course. Mothers of a three-year-old and an infant daughter.

Born in Tokyo in 1957. Graduated from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Tokyo. Worked for Hakuhodo Inc., an advertising company, for 30 years. Moved to Kyoto in the spring of 2012. Conducts participatory classes at the Faculty of Policy Studies and the Social Innovation Course of the Graduate School of Policy and Management in Doshisha University under the theme “Pursuit of Euphoria and Social Change.” Became aware of the potential of workshops when he took a temporary leave from work and studied in California around 1990, and organized workshops to reconnect people with people, nature and themselves, and facilitation classes to create participatory places. Kyoto Journal Founding Director

JOHN EINARSEN is the founding editor and art director of Kyoto Journal (www.kyotojournal.org), a non-profit, all-volunteer magazine that has been in publication for the past 26 years. He has designed several books, including Japanese Garden Design.In 2008, together with photographer Ishihara Masumi, he curated PeaceWorks, an exhibition at Yokohama Zaim that explored "peace photography," featuring 38 photographers from 11 countries. A book of his photographs with poems by Edith Shiffert, Kyoto: The Forest Within the Gate, will be published later this fall by Heian-kyo Media and White Pine Press. He received the Cultural Affairs Agency Commissioner's Award in June, 2013 and is an Ombudsman for the Japan Times.
